Barbara Kuebel was born and raised in Austria. She earned two art degrees from the Academy of Fine Art in Vienna. Keubel uses oil and pencil for her works on paper and canvas, but she also finds expression through print techniques such as woodcut. The artist is inspired by people and their interactions in groups. By creating impressions of figures in a simplified environment, Keubel offers visual scenarios shaped by spontaneous emotion, aggression, affection, isolation, and social density. Keubel's work is characterized by strong graphic elements resulting from pencil strokes, which she sees as the most important carrier of visual information. Keubel is not specifically interested in the description of the figure, but rather, the importance ofthe gesture. The artist currently resides in England.
