Katherine was fortunate to grow up in a family that loved the arts and nurtured her gift. By the time she was in high school, Katherine had become a professional portrait artist. After college, she received a full Merit Scholarship to the National Academy School of Design in New York City, where she studied under the late Daniel Greene, NA. While portraiture was her first love, Katherine embraced all areas of representational art. Katherine Galbraith has diligently pursued excellence throughout her career. The result has been prestigious awards and national recognition. Some of the more coveted awards Katherine has received include Best in Show for National Oil & Acrylic Painters Society, First Place at the Portrait Society of America, and Second Place at American Women Artists. Katherine has been asked to write articles for The Art of the Portrait, and has been the Featured Artist in American Art Collector. Her work has often been included in feature articles in Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine. Katherine has been a juror for international juried exhibitions, and a mentor for the Portrait Society of America. Heads of corporations, judges, lawyers, religious institutions, 5 star resorts, best selling authors, presidents of colleges, universities, and other academic institutions are among her more high profile clients. Last summer Katherine painted more than 40 portraits from life, each done in 3 hours or less, for her project, Painting the Faces of Chautauqua. She painted people from all walks of life, all ages, to give a comprehensive scope of the people who live in Chautauqua County, NY.
