Lawrence Calcagno (1913-1993) attended the California School of Fine Arts on the G.I. Bill from 1947 to 1950. There, he was awarded first prize in painting from the San Francisco Museum of Fine Art. He then lived and worked in Europe and norther Africa from 1950 to 1955, studying at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere, Paris Institute d'Arte Statale Floreiree. Calcagno continued to work and exhibit throughout his life, and is included in collections and museums internationally. His style ranges from meditative linear collections and museums internationally. His works are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston, MA), National Gallery of Art (Washington, D.C.), Currier Gallery of Art (NH), Guilford College Art Gallery (NC), Smithsonian American Art Museum (Washington, D.C.), Westmoreland Museum of American Art (Greenburg, PA).
