Strange was born in Dallas, Texas and lived her early years throughout the Metroplex. She has a BFA in Graphic Art from Sam Houston State University and professional experience in marketing, publishing and advertising. Prior to her studies at SHSU, she completed two years at Hill Junior College on full art scholarships. She worked as a graphic artist for four years in San Antonio, Texas before locating to Chicago, Illinois.October 2003 Strange launched her art career with an open studio in conjunction with Chicago Artist Month. While in Chicago she fostered her individual art presence in conjunction with developing an art movement within her community. Strange connected the public with artists by organizing rotating art exhibitions shown in professional establishments and networked with area artists to produce an artist directory that was distributed to local businesses. She exchanged exhibits for space with real estate developers by arranging alternative space art shows and she exposed the community to the artists’ workspace by organizing open studio tours. Strange extended the exploration of her art to include the environment she occupied.After four years of grass roots concentration in Chicago, Strange moved the studio back to Texas to the Austin Area. Finding a home in Bastrop she became active in the local art community. She is a member of the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild and has served on the board. Currently she chairs the Featured Artist Venue, which she has transformed by establishing a First Friday Reception Program to the downtown area. Strange is also a founding member of the downtown gallery, Artmakers Collective located in the R.A. Green Building. With a passion for public art, Strange serves by invitation on the Bastrop Art in Public Places Task Force. Stephanie’s attention to bringing art to the public is evident in the energy and ideas she contributes by connecting community and artist.Collected internationally, artist Stephanie Strange has work in private and public collections. She lives and works in Bastrop, Texas where she continues to develop her art language.
