Kenn Kotara's work is influenced by natural patterns in mathematics, as well as in natural and life sciences. Fractal forms, geometric patterns and manipulation of space dominate this current body of work. His elegantly drawn lines, both repetitive and lyrical speak to the abstract and the organic. "My personal history drives the sequence of events leading into an unknown, liminal space. The intent is to work through the process, searching for the forms allowing them to reveal themselves. It is only then that I can arrive at a stopping place and be content with the conclusion." Kotara, a Louisiana native, received a BFA and MFA from Louisiana Tech University. He has served on the Asheville public art board since 2001. He has taught at UNC-Ashville and A-B Tech Community College.
