I am fascinated with the idea of belonging, in particular how we can feel a sense of connectionunder a big sky. These imagined landscapes are rooted in memories, personal experiences in natureand a curiosity around our human experiences under the expansive embrace of the same big sky.The fictitious landscapes begin with a story, a memory of a place and time and the emotions thatrelate to sense of belonging. They are pathways connecting us to our roots and delivering a sense ofawe and hope as we move toward the future. The pieces are rendered in acrylic on canvas. The paintings are layered and complex, resulting fromresponding as the paint is applied, allowing a narrative to develop, giving space for gestural brushmarks, spontaneous blending of colour and tactile application of paint with a palette knife resultingin an immersive experience that is not imply about recreation of an image, rather it is a tangibleemotional experience. In a world that often feels divided, these paintings aim to remind us of our shared stories under thesame big sky. My canvases are windows to introspection, spaces where viewers can pause, dream andremember their own sense of belonging. Jodi is from Saskatwoon.
