Artist Statement Robert Fogel suggestive of geologic and natural formations while also maintaining their non-representational mystery. His art originates from his experience as a biologist surveying the Intermountain West for truffles. The stark landscapes result from wind, temperature extremes and cataclysmic thunderstorms reducing the landscape to simple forms. The resulting beautiful lines strike a chord within him as do the contrast of colors and the harmonious arrangement of forms. He chose to use a similar reductive or minimalist approach to make sculptures that use ever-changing shadows to further enhance the definition of lines and the shape of forms. The intent is to create visual interest, raise environmental issues and perhaps trigger memories of places visited.
