Maureen Zelle, better known as Mo, offers a meditative intent behind simple strokes. They are imbued with intentional play and hold a welcoming lightheartedness. Her lines follow a path, therapeutic and sincere. It is immediately apparent that Mo is open to the experience of joyful creation. This carefree approach brings back ruminations of unfettered youth.Zelle’s medium of choice is encaustic and mixed media as it offers diversity that is often transformational in her work. The ability to start with an idea and travel a path to a completely different outcome is wholly satisfying to her. Mo’s simple shapes give way to subtle kinesis by weaving both process and spontaneity together. Mystery resides in the suspended layers of pleasing color swathes and rich textures making the work feel like you are witness to the time lapse of star trails.Mo hails from Lathrup Village, MI and now resides in the open expanses of Highlands Ranch, CO with her two dogs, Murphy and Finnley. She grew up in a family that fostered a deep appreciation for art, taking many trips to explore the Detroit Institute of Arts Museum. Zelle has spent her working career teaching early childhood special education and is particularly drawn to helping children on the autism spectrum. She looks forward to delving into new techniques and mediums as she grows her audience and body of work.
