Driven to paint what is unseen, Kathy Mohl creates places for the soul to wander. Working in the studio and plein air, Kathy paints with oils alla prima, starting with large abstract shapes, finding her way into impressionistic images through a rhythm of adding and removing until the desired feeling is revealed rather than achieved. This intuitive process creates paintings that are filled with “spin-off” areas ofabstraction, where trees, branches, grasses, reflections or anything becomecelebrations of shapes, color and light.Born in Ohio, Kathy has studied and practiced art throughout her life, attending Oberlin College and Kent State University. She worked as a graphicdesigner and illustrator before directing her energy to focus on creating her own art.Moving to Michigan opened her eyes to the landscape and she believes she willalways be inspired by nature.“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.” – St. Catherine of Siena
