Marianne Menger spends more time thinking than painting. Captivated by the details, she often focuses on just a few critical elements, determining which specific colors or textures are just enough to draw the viewer in. Whether she paints deliberately with a specific outcome in mind or lets the painting develop organically, she describes methodically mixing color as one of the most enjoyable and essential processes to her work. Attune to the subtleties of the infinite shades possible, she limits her palette, at times opting for only one carefully selected color. Marianne Menger earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI, and currently lives in Grand Rapids, MI.
