Lilah Rose (b. 1990, in Rockford, Michigan) has been a Los Angeles-based soft sculpture artist since 2016. Her practice is informed by a lifelong association with fiber and textile art, including a mother who spun her own yarn and training with a floor loom at Cranbrook Kingswood (as a high school boarding student). She studied film and performance art at Evergreen State College, which evolved into an interest in costume design that she nurtured by apprenticing to Lucy Gentry, a veteran stage designer and textile artist based in Olympia, Washington. Finally, living in Los Angeles led her to develop the sculptural work she focuses on today; using her textile experience to build forms that endeavor to refer to the movement and narrative passion that can often be found in the most compelling costume design. Lilah has shown work with Hilde, Simchowitz, and New Image galleries in LA, as well as Almine Rech (London), Tiger Strikes Asteroid (New York) and Pt. 2 (Oakland) among others.
