"From my first trip to Hawaiʻi as a tourist over twenty years ago, the ancient hula, the hula kahiko was a powerful experience for me. The language and symbolismeof the dance was the poetry and art of old Hawaiʻi. Since the Hawaiians had no two dimensional art which could express the complexity of their culture, everything was poured into the hula which went beyond simple expression as an art form which encompassed the entire human experience. Everything changed in 1992 when I left everything familiar behind: family, friends and my profession and moved to Hawaiʻi to follow my heart and pursue a career as an artist. That leap of faith was an inspired decision. My life changed and so did my art. And it continues to evolve.Like everything else that I do and have done, there is no preliminary drawing, no sketch or study. I just wing it trusting that my sense of design will most times result in an adequate composition. What will be my next inspiration? No artist can ever really know. The joy is in the journey."
