When Debbie was young, she was a musician, studying flute and piano. After marrying and raising their children, she had the opportunity to live in Holland, and it was there that she took her first painting class in 1992. Debbie was drawn to the beauty of the Dutch landscape and spent most of her spare time learning to paint. After moving back to the US and becoming an “empty nester” in 2008, she found a true creative outlet in painting and became more passionate about art. She has studied a variety of mediums, techniques, and styles with many teachers. Debbie took some classes with Jerry Yarnell, and after some time she became one of his certified artists and currently his only “certified” instructor. She is fortunate to travel and teach workshops throughout the country. In the last few years, she has become interested in Plein Air painting and has attended the Publisher’s Invitational for Plein air painters, sponsored by Streamline Publishing. Debbie has competed in the Williamette Valley Lavender Paint Out in Oregon and the Glen Arbor Plein Air Festival, in Michigan and others. She has shown and sold art in California and Oregon before moving to Pennsylvania. During the warm months, she works outdoors as often as possible and enjoys the extra challenges that painting outside brings.
