Desmond O’Hagan has always loved, and been inherently skilled at, fine art. His parents encouraged developing this talent, however, Desmond didn’t see a path for art as a career. Instead, he pursued a degree in Architecture. The creativity appealed to him, but not what he calls the “nuts and bolts.” He transferred to what is now the Colorado Institute of Art, emerging with a degree in graphic design. His attraction to lines and architectural detail remained, still evident in his current work. In the mid ‘80s, O’Hagan left graphic design behind to pursue his art full time, and continue his journey translating the world onto canvas. He stresses technique, style and color to portray the nature of light. “A great piece of art must have a spark the makes a viewer return for second looks—that spark is what I strive for in every painting,” Desmond explains.
