Born in Uruguay, Arturo Mallmann spent his childhood & early adulthood in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His unparalleled mixed-media creations draw from his life in Latin America, while incorporating his current home of Los Angeles. Vast spaces are often his inspiration and subject matter; having limited specific focus diminishes distraction and instills a great feeling of liberation within the artist and, he hopes, the viewer. Visual depth is a primary characteristic of Mallman’s work. Applying up to 50 layers of translucent acrylic paint between coats of clear epoxy resin helps develop a space with no barriers for the eyes. Figures are intentionally placed on the horizon, distancing us from the turbulent environment in which we often find ourselves. A final thick resin layer creates the feeling of a ‘glass canvas’ while increasing the vibrancy of color in each layer.
