Mike Rich was born and raised on Munjoy Hill in Portland, Maine. From middle school he has been influenced by street art and popular culture and cites the book “Subway Art” by Henry Chalfant and Martha Cooper as being one of his biggest influences in beginning to explore the world of graffiti. He has been slinging spray paint since the late 80s and is both intrigued and motivated by the notion of artists displaying their personal works publicly “where it isn’t supposed to be.” His current work is an exploration of the cross-section between contemporary legal street art concepts and more original graffiti works - which are his own spin on common pop culture motifs. Mike has sprayed murals all over the state of Maine. He has exhibited at The Center for Maine Contemporary Art and is committed to pursuing his career as a fine artist.
