Born and raised in Honolulu, Earl Shimokawa works out of his studio in Pearl City. A self taught and instinctive artist, creates his Hawaiian scenes through a mild screen of memory and idealism. There is a romantic serenity in his work that irresistibly evokes nostalgia for a segment of paradise - remembered or imagined. His paintings of seascapes and mountain ranges, fishermen and birds in flight are characterized by a generous self use of color and gentleness of expression. His skies are aglow with soft pastels and his oceans shimmer with white light, high on the color scale.
