Ann is an artist and educator, with a studio and home in Camden, Maine. Her recent body ofwork, vases created in 2023, is inspired by ancient forms and also 16th centuryAsian ceramics. She has chosen to explore various glazes inspired by her travels, includingceladons from the collection at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, as well as blueand white Arita wares of Japan and Delft wares of the Netherlands. Koi, a fish revered inAsia, represent friendship and love. Her brushwork, created with raw oxides, is intentionallyloose to capture flow and movement of koi forms. In some works she incorporates Mishimatechnique, a surface treatment that involves imbedding a kaolin (porcelain) slip into a carvedgreenware surface. All vases, fired multiple times (bisque/glaze), are formed by acombination of wheel thrown and coil building techniques. Ann has been creating ceramicworks for thirty years. Lately Ann has been using various objects to make impressions in the work and her forms have become more contemporary. Her glazing has also become less controlled, and she is blending more textures and sheens in the glazing. 1964 Born, Stephenville, Newfoundland1987 B.A., Lewis and Clark College1989-94 Ceramics Apprenticeship, Karatsu, Japan1994 Nissin Bowl Exhibition, Tokyo1994 Western Japan Arts and Crafts National Exhibition, National tour show2005 B.F.A., University of Southern Maine2005-8 Carver Hill Gallery2006-8 Lincoln Street Center Gallery2015 Harlow Gallery2017 M.Ed., Leslie University2018 North Haven Hopkins Gallery2019 Kentucky Museum, Western Kentucky University, “All for One” Exhibition2021 Artist-in-Residency, Virginia Tech University, Reynolds Homestead2020-1 North Haven Hopkins Gallery2020-1 Granite Gallery2021-2023 Carver Hill Gallery, Camden, MaineAwards & Permanent Collection:Virginia Tech University/Reynolds Homestead“Reaching For Freedom” (collaboration with basket maker, Billy Ray Sims)“Family”, Faciliating public engagement to consider enslaved experience of familyIwataya Prize, Western Japan Arts and Crafts Show, Innovation & TraditionIwataya Corporation, Yunomi, set of 5
