Bill Barrett is an American sculptor, painter and jewelry maker. Bill's abstract metal sculptures are inspired by the fluid lines and elegance of dance. For decades he has explored the ability of bronze, aluminum, and steel to express the gestural condition of drawing, experimenting with balance, tension, and geometry. Even in his large-scale public works, he retains the expressive freedom of calligraphy. Working contemporaneously with other abstract metal sculptors such as Henry Moore and David Smith, his practice gravitates toward the influences of expressionism and Surrealism—so much so, in fact, that late in his career he carried this style into his abstract, calligraphic oil paintings.
