Jacques Martin-Ferrières was a pupil of his father Henri Martin as well as Cormon and Ernest Laurent. He exhibited in Paris, at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he became a member and where he was declared hors-concours. At the Salon he received a mention in 1920, a silver medal in 1923 and a travel scholarship in 1924. He won the Prix National in 1925, and gold medal and the Institute’s Prix Legay-Lebrun in 1928. This painting dated 1927 is from his most highly recognized/decorated period of his career.
