Badru Temitayo is a multimedia artist popular for his ever evolving style. A graduate from Abeokuta, Temitayo specialised in sculpture and textiles at the Federal College of Education. He later attended Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile–Ife, Osun State where he obtained his B.A. and MFA degree in Fine and Applied Arts with a major in Textile Design. His extensive training becomes evident not just in his technique but his dexterous tendencies in producing abstract, symbolic and mythically driven works. Temitayo’s material exploration largely ranges from work done in Textiles (using acrylic threads to create hand embroidery) to sculptural installations. He finds constancy amidst his invigorating experimentation, in the deployment of Nigerian inspired motifs. He primarily draws inspiration from the dual aesthetic environment of Nigerian myths, history, proverbs, folklores and spirituality, using imagery and symbols from African fabrics (most especially Adire Eleko) finding meaning for them in contemporary themes. Badru Temitayo is a recipient of many awards including the First Prize (Tertiary Institution Category) Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Foundation, National Art Competition (2013), 1st Runner-up Etisalat Photography Competition (2014), FoodmeetArt by Minimie Noodles (2016), Dr. Pius Okigbo Prize, Life in my City Art Festival (LIMCAF) (2017). He has also won LIMCAF’s Best textile Artist prize three times (2015/2016 & 2018) and the Young Talent Award from the Alliance Française Network in Nigeria (At LIMCAF 2018). Temitayo was among the “LIMCAF 2017 Best 4” sponsored to the 13th Dak’Art Biennale (2018) in Senegal by Professor El Anatsui. He was also a part of The First and Second Ibadan Art Fair (2018 & 2019).
