Adetope Peter Kiladejo has an enthralling capacity to translate memories of his past, the present and the sense of sacred associated with certain overwhelming resonances that have impacted him more than others and transform these into a poetic visual language through his art. He picks up through his memories and experiences with a beautiful quality, and releases them in an emotional purgation on to his compositions, capturing joys of life in their purest expressions. His works hold a photo like quality to document moments of life, enhanced by brilliantly mastered brush work. Peter's art practice focuses on the black race. He seeks to tell stories of people in the rural communities while focusing on their culture, uniqueness, lifestyle, and social interactions. The peculiarities and daily life routine of certain black communities are a great inspiration that influence his themes. Peter's art is tailored towards expressing raw forms as natural as they appear. In the creation of these pieces, Peter is very mindful of illustrating his stories vividly to give a factual narration. His aim is to document real-life occurrences, past or present, within diverse communities and capture true human sociocultural interactions and relationships. Adetope Peter Kiladejo was born with a flair for the arts which he further honed with a National Diploma in General Arts at Yaba College of Technology (2008), a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fine and Applied Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University where he specialized in painting (2012) and a Master of Fine Arts degree (MFA), painting major (2018). Peter has participated in several group exhibitions within Nigeria including the ‘October Rain’ at Nike Centre for Art and Culture, Lagos (2018), ‘Coming Out’ (2019); ‘Vision’, ‘So Far So What’ and ‘ Life in my City’ (2021); and lastly Lagos Community Art Fair, TWB 8 Oba Adeyinka Oyekan, Ikoyi Lagos (2021).
