Stephanie spent her first twenty years of her career as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner before transitioning over to a full-time, self-taught artist.Stephanie's shift from pediatrics to art occurred when she had an epiphany during her first visit to Kenya in 2000. Stephanie realized that not only did she fall in love with the East African country, she also discovered that girls especially were in need of opportunities to pursue secondary education.“By educating and empowering girls, we are able to change the face and the cycle of poverty.” My soul was touched forever by my experience there. Since that trip, every dollar I make with my art goes directly to help provide education for children in need.Since that first trip Stephanie now returns yearly to oversee their progress and douse them with love and encouragement. Jessica Danforth, Stephanie’s daughter, also founded The Leo Project. Stephanie donates all profits from her art sales to The Leo Project, the non-profit organization that her daughter started in honor of her best friend. Stephanie strongly believes in the concept of “pay it forward” and that is what her creative process allows her to do. Her years in pediatrics and art have confounded in the most magical way making their purpose even more profound.Stephanie paints with the same passion she has for helping others which is felt when looking at her work. Stephanie’s work has been collected privately, her work is owned by the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital (largest private collection on Martha’s Vineyard). In 2022, Stephanie's work joined Boston University's collection and the work is exhibited in the Groce Pépin Culinary Innovation Laboratory. Stephanie is represented by Knowhere Art Gallery in Oak Bluffs, MA who have curated solo and group exhibitions featuring her work.Stephanie resides in Chilmark on the island of Martha’s Vineyard and is active in the community in various ways.
