Heidi Reszies is a multidisciplinary artist and poet living in Richmond, Virginia. Her paintings are included in the National Museum of Women in the Arts CLARA Database of Women Artists. She is a faculty member of Virginia Commonwealth University, where she teaches letterpress printing and creative writing. Church Hill, December is a series of mixed media paintings depicting familiar views in my Richmond, Virginia neighborhood. These paintings are rooted in light and shadow, depicting exterior as well as interior landscapes. In my creative practice, I aim to foreground my process — where mark-making, gesture, torn edges, and brush strokes are a stand-in for the body — in paintings that expand outward and suggest an underlying structure of time that holds the work together in a sort of diaristic page-turning sequence.
