Bronwen McCormick's watercolor artwork explores the natural world and the beauty of our mountain landscape. When viewing her work she hopes that you feel as if you are in nature, whether standing among the trees, or enjoying a view. Her gratitude for live in one of the most beautiful places on earth and in the shadow mountains that are some of the oldest and wisest in the world. These surroundings are her inspiration. Bronwen works in watercolor on paper and is continuously amazed and sometimes even mesmerized by the way watercolor flows and moves. As she says, "I like to think I have control over the medium but watercolor continually reminds me that I do not! I enjoy the partnership required to create a finished work." Bent Creek, a Western North Carolina State Park with miles of trails and fire roads, is for Bronwen a place to exercise, breathe, rejuvenate, observe, and appreciate the beauty of the world around me. It is not uncommon to see hawks, woodpeckers, owls, bears, snakes, and all manner WNC wildlife. This special space is where she draws a lot of her inspiration, and has thus assumed the name as part of her work - Bent Creek Watercolor. However, it isn’t just Bent Creek, it is everywhere—beauty is all around us. Bronwen is often struck by what she sees just doing all of the mundane daily life things. The view of the mountains leaving the office, a sunset on the way home from the grocery store, or the sideways sunlight through the trees just before it slips down in the evening. There is something every day to see and appreciate. And this is why she paints. To capture the fleeting moments that too oft go unacknowledged and unappreciated.
