Mary is a lawyer and a self-taught artist. She began painting in 2013 after feeling called to take a sabbatical from her legal career to pursue painting. From 2013 to 2016 she lived in a small apartment in Trastevere, Rome and immersed herself in painting, art history, and Italy's minimal design aesthetic. Mary returned to the United States in 2016 after accepting a job with a corporate law firm in Washington D.C. She lived in Washington D.C. for five years, and moved to Denver, Colorado in 2020. Mary continues to work as a lawyer and artist, unexpectedly inspired by the push-pull between the left and right brain; the rigidity of the law and the 'lawlessness' of her art. Her work ranges from soft movements of color across a canvas, to bold assertions of lines and texture. In her artwork as in life, she aspires to capture those moments of stillness, peace, and equilibrium.
