(1966 - ) Anthony E. Begay born in 1966, is an established Navajo artist who lives in Shiprock, New Mexico, on the Navajo Nation. Begay creates sculptures out of natural stone, clay and wood and specializes in working with many different kinds of alabaster. When working with Oreland C. Joe, Begay participated in the creation of the now famous Navajo Code Talker bronze memorial installed in the Navajo Nation capital. The artist has been associated with the prestigious Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe for over twenty-two years. Honors he has received include an award from the Santa Fe Indian Market. Anthony Begay evolves the subject that he is creating by the "feel" he gets from the material he has selected to work in. Sometimes this takes days and nights of meditating, sketching, testing, and studying. His beautiful alabaster carvings are highly desirable. Each piece is unique and signed by the artist. *
