I don’t know if glass found me or if I found glass but upon gathering the molten material for the first time nearly 20 years ago I had discovered my passion and knew my place was in the hot shop. I began my journey and pursued a fine arts degree with a focus in glass blowing at Jacksonville University, in my hometown of Jacksonville, Florida and never looked back. Each crashing wave exist uniquely for a moment in time. Molten glass is fluid like a wave but becomes timeless when it cools and takes it’s resting place in the kiln. Gratifying and humbling, I love how creating glass requires a race against time. Unlike a painter than can set the brush down and walk away, I must pour all of my creative energy into the piece I am working until it takes it’s final heat. A dance with fire and my own two hands, bringing to life a creation that can never return to its original form. I enjoy working with clients to create, site-specific installations each made with intention to invoke feelings, conversation, and create synergy within the space they have given me. Color is my muse. I use it to awaken a mood more than a meaning. I welcome the interplay between light and glass, a material where light has a natural voice. It can transform from a translucent to an opaque with a brilliant range of colors and gradations where the possibilities are boundless. This is what captivates me and keeps me coming back for more.
