For more than a decade, Thierry Guetta, under his moniker, Mr. Brainwash, has been pushing the envelope of contemporary art. Born in France in 1966 and based in the U.S., Mr. Brainwash has been pushing pop culture’s envelope for almost a decade, bringing his art to the street, the gallery, and on screen. Collectors first became aware of the artist in the acclaimed documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop,”. Written by the infamous Banksy, this entertaining account of the lives of graffiti artists was later nominated for an Academy Award. After a two year long informal apprenticeship with Banksy, Mr. Brainwash decided to put aside his passion for camera and film to try his hand at visual arts. Armed with wheat paste, spray cans, brushes and paint buckets, he lit up the streets in 2006. The signature use of beloved icons graced his highly recognizable style quickly making him a venerable figure in the burgeoning street art scene. While undertaking worldwide solo exhibitions and residency at Art Basel each year, Mr. Brainwash creates opportunities to engage the public in the world of art. He has created cover artwork, album campaigns, music videos, and installations for a variety of the most iconic figures and brands including Madonna, Michael Jackson, Dalai Lama, The White House, Coca Cola, Levis, Mercedes, Product Red, and many others. Mr. Brainwash is unlike any artist today. His shows are journeys – self-guided tours through a pop culture wonderland: colorful and beautiful. His artwork is a pure sensory experience and like so many of the subjects depicted in Mr. Brainwash’s art, his works are timeless, reflecting human aspirations and the voice that screams… “Follow Your Dreams.”
