Annie Kammerer Butrus is an artist who pursues work about our perception of the places we live. Her work involves documenting the changes in the landscape and the emotions evoked in response to that change. Mainly realized in painting, Kammerer Butrus's work has concentrated on the Birmingham, Alabama area where she resides. "What may seem anachronistic in a digital age is the fact that Butrus works en plein air, carrying sketchbooks and tracing paper to the orchards to track the passage of time as the trees cast their shadows across the ground. These are then transferred to her panels, as obverse and reverse images, creating the diptychs that comprise a single work." (Brett Levine) Read more.
