"My paintings are mnemonic devices triggering resonance with the dynamics of nature ... the interplay of seen and unseen, of being and becoming. My paintings are sewn canvas (sometimes with plexiglass) and layers of acrylic glazes. Works on paper are generally sewn and collaged mulberry paper with acrylic and sumi. Processes of constructing, connecting, sewing, and layering structures, patterns and paint are metaphors for processes occurring in nature. They are my ways of knowing and my means for discovering kinds of order. In the end, my work is about conjuring beauty." - Signe Stuart
