A longtime resident of New England, Stan Moeller was born and raised in rural Indiana. Excelling in art at an early age, Stan always referred modeling clay or a blank sheet of paper to coloring books. Voted “Most Outstanding Artist” in his senior year of High school, Moeller went on the study life drawing and painting at Western Michigan University. Further studies have included painting on location “en plein air” with his friend and mentor, Don Stone, and he continues to self-educate via the writing and styles of Birge Harrison, Robert Henri, John Carlson and Charles Hawthorne. An award winning artist, Stan excels in his ability to paint diverse subject matter: landscapes, cityscapes, interiors and figurative works. Less interested in technical reality than the “mood of reality”, he uses spontaneous brushwork and vibrant color to capture the way light moves around and affects a subject as much as the subject itself.
Moeller won the Marine Environment Wildlife Award in the 25th Annual International Marine Art, Mystic, CT Exhibition (2004), and was awarded a month-long residency by Les Amis De La Grande Vigne, in Dinan, France (2003). He was awarded for his painting “Gull Rock (Monhegan)” by International Artist magazine (#25, June/July 2002). Moeller’s paintings are represented in both private and corporate collections along the eastern seaboard.
