"I strive to create original dynamic works that test the boundaries of how pottery should look. It is just me, in my studio, pushing the limits of what I can do with clay." ABOUTEthan Lillemoe is mostly self-taught, taking his first pottery class when he was 10. His teacher let him diverge from the curriculum, and he never looked back. Ethan has been a working artist his entire adult life. His functional pottery evolved into carved clay sculptures. Regardless of the medium, his work is inspired by the organic beauty found in nature: the graceful curves of the human form, abstract yet ordered colonies of coral reef, the stunning colors of summer flowers, the raw shapes of the continents themselves. Ethan’s ceramics remind the viewer of organic forms, revered architecture, and modern minimalist design. PROCESSEthan’s clay vessels are thrown on a potter's wheel, carved with a fine blade, and fired. Each piece is glazed with an airbrush to ensure a smooth even finish before firing for a second time.
