Richard's work is predominantly wheel thrown stoneware and makes reference to historical design patterns. It is heavily influenced by the research he carried out for the Froyle tile company. He draws on themes of British colonialism and the way in which the UK has become an eclectic mix of cultural styles, as immigration has brought with it a rich source of influence. Richard is particularly interested in things that have stylistically become adopted by the British mainstream.Since 2006 he has been running Froyle Tiles, a company producing high fired Stoneware tiles. They produce hand made tiles for the trade, restoration projects and bespoke site specific work for Architects and designers. They have carried out commissions for clients such as the BBC, Fired Earth, Nando’s and M&S. More recently they collaborated with potter Kate Malone and EPR Archiects on a large scale commercial project in Savile Row.Richard recently took part in both series of the BBC 2 Programme ‘The Great British Pottery Throwdown’ as the on screen technician.A selection of Richard Miller's artwork is featured in the section below.
