Barbara Sussberg is a self-taught artist who began her career in textile design. She paints with a palette knife and rags, in a process of continuously building up, removing, rubbing, scratching and staining. Her paintings are multi layered and luminous, she mixes her own colors.“I try to give just enough information, and not a bit more, interpreting the feelings of being outside, always with a focus on color. I spend a lot of time thinking about how a painting makes someone feel when they look at it, a very important element of my work.”A native New Yorker who spent several years in the Atlanta area, she currently lives and paints from her studio in Charleston SC.The Washington Post has said of her work –“The basic elements could hardly be simpler, yet the result is complex.”Barbara’s paintings have been exhibited in NYC, The Hamptons, Greenwich, Palm Beach and Washington DC.
