The question of an "Artist Statement " always perplexes me. It assumes I know what I'm doing or at the very least know what I'm going to do. Also, I feel as the writer Charles Bukowski " I don't like to talk about it, it deflates the tires". In light of this, here's a bit of collateral information. In the late 60's early 70's I wrote and drew "Underground Comix" in San Francisco. Inspiration, characters, environments etc. were gleaned from extensive notebooks that I kept as I caroused bars, cafes etc. These notebooks were with me when I lived, studied and worked with magazines in Paris ( one of them was the ill fated "Charlie Hebdo" ). lately, after years of painting abstractly in NYC, I was moved to scratch out ideas on paper again...motivated by way too much coffee, and being up way too early (5:00) to hit the studio at a civilized time. I had a bunch of manilla folders lying around, cheap pens and my twisted imagination. These are the results.
