Sometimes the dream comes before the piece begins, and other times it presents itself through the process of creation. Much like physical dreams, artistic dreams evolve over short periods of time. There are tangents that present themselves. New ideas lead to new choices, which lead to even more tangents. I may begin with one idea and end with something totally opposite. When creating, I am constantly contemplating when to stop or when to keep going. Should I add this medium or use this color? Standing back and looking at a finished piece is similar to remembering a vivid dream – you remember going from point A to point B, and from point B to point C. It may or may not end how you would like, but when you wake up, or in this case put down the brush, you feel at ease.
