FEMALE VOICES Searching for a female voice, Carolina Convers' works transcend from the classical world to that of family photo albums. Harmoniously uniting the medium of painting with that of prints that represent images from the artist's memories, Convers uses small stains and brushstrokes to flood traditional prints of female protagonists. Despite these images being a part of her life, the works are not entirely of an intimate nature, nor are they part of an interior search. Although Carolina speaks with a voice found in a past where feminine voices where felt with force, it is a voice that is nonetheless her own. For though it speaks of a memory, this memory in itself is not a clear entity. Instead, it is very similar to the result of Carolina's work, malleable and flexible as the acetate upon which she works. Just as memories are repetitive and collapse one onto the other, so are the constantly repeated female bodies represented in her works, fragmented and composed of many remnants. With unrealistic colors reminiscent of a dream world, Carolina Convers effortlessly expresses the lingering and perplexing message of a memory.
