Mark was born in Lachine, Quebec and has had a fascination for drawing since childhood, a skill he practises constantly, even today. He made the transition from childhood talent to entering art school at the age of seventeen. Upon graduation in Design from Montreal’s Concordia University, Mark embarked on a thirteen year career in the animation industry, working primarily as a background designer and art director. Despite working full time, he earned international acclaim for his watercolours through competitions, juried shows, and solo exhibitions. In 2000, Mark switched to oil as his primary medium and making the jump to full time painter in 2002. Artist’s Statement: Mark considers his technical experience in colour, handling of paint, and knowing the importance of values as the solid foundation for his success. Mark has won many awards, including the 2002 Award of Excellence from the Oil Painters of America. Galleries consider his work spontaneous, vibrant, and attention getting. Collectors love the subject matter, texture, energy, and light in his scenes.
