PIETRO ADAMO (1955 - ) "Toronto artist Pietro Adamo uses paint as both a doorway and mirror into the under-layers of human experience. Carefully, he waits for the creative moment to strike, synchronizing his marks and movements to a finely-tuned emotional dial. Acting as a channel, Adamo enlists whatever means necessary to convert the unseen into form. He employs an impressive array of artistic tools and media. Modelling pastes and various gel mediums are combined with silica sand and occasionally stucco plaster to animate his pieces with texture. Layers of acrylic are used to polish the tops of his work with colour which he then sands, builds an additional colour layer upon, and sands again. The visual complexity builds as he uses conte crayons and different oil veneers and washes for highlight and accents. This pastiche of mediums is by no means random — the deeper Adamo goes into the textural body of his work, the more intricate and emotionally relevant the work becomes. Adamo’s paintings are a visual form of liberation, a space where the passion and daily undercurrents of life are unabashedly brought to the fore for all to see.” —Lindsay Ogus, Art Writer Adamo’s work can be found in galleries and private collections throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
