Joe Mullican is a true Southern artist, a gifted painter. He enjoys the study of nature through en plein air painting. In particular he finds morning and twilight intriguing, and attempts to create a feeling of calm in his paintings causing them to be very easy on the eye. Mullican is extremely dedicated to the discipline of traditional painting methods; though he feels that the painter “has the freedom to take the landscape and create a unique vision, with the hope of raising its aesthetic.” He believes that his commitment to showing the order found in nature on his canvas will inspire the viewer to a higher awareness and a similar commitment in their lives. His exhibition list is a long one, but it includes such shows as: Auld Alliance Gallery in Nashville, TN; Belmont University in Nashville, TN; Creative Arts Guild in Dalton, GA; the Grumbacher Award of Excellence at the Festival of the Masters in Lake Buena vista, FL; Lagerquist Gllery in Atlanta, GA; Pamoply Art Show in Birmingham, AL; and Grumbacer Award in Oil Painting at the Springfest Art Show in Charlotte, NC.
