Julie Crews is an oil painter. She grew up in Asheville, North Carolina but has called manyother places home. A few include southern California, which housed her awkward high-school soul, northern California, which taught her how to ease into her 20’s, and a decadein Louisiana which gifted her with more vision. Julie received her Associate of Arts fromBrigham Young University- Idaho. She now lives in Huntsville, Alabama with her husbandand five children.Julie paints what takes her out of the studio: the life it takes to nurture a family. When she isin the studio, she escapes domestic tethers. Yet, on canvas, there remain before her thescenes of her life: fires burning in the backyard, children swimming, and snapshots fromrunning errands around town. The the flow of traffic, weather and landscapes encounteredwhile driving, and the moods of people closest to her influence her work. Recreating thesescenes gives permanence to the emotional undercurrents of her existence.
