Photographer Chip Cooper aims to define the South through his exhibitions and photography books. "Most of my career has been devoted to photographing a sense of place," says Cooper. He uses landscapes, details, abstracts, and people to help tell the story. Cooper served as director of photography for The University of Alabama for more than three decades before joining the faculty as Artist-in-Residence at the Honors College. He has published several photography books, including Hunting: The Southern Tradition, Alabama Memories, Silent in the Land, Common Threads, Crimson: The University of Alabama, and Tin Man. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally, and his photographs are included in multiple museums as well as private and corporate collections.
